Random Humans

Posted by Christopher Rudder

The Random Humans appear on the hip-hop scene with their release of a self-titled three-song E.P. that gives a taste of what’s to come. Longview, Alberta native, Deception combines a steady flow to the beats provided by the talented beatsmith, Bear. Deception, with his quick wit and instinctual gift for spitting rhymes, developed a love for expression through music after seeing his first freestyle battle in 2002. Since cutting his teeth writing and experimenting with over 100 songs, Deception has recorded a full-length album, Under False Creek (2009), with Calgary producer, Decline. A Calgary native, the innovative beat machine, Bear moved to Vancouver in 2006 to gain recording experience with Canadian producer Rob Shallcross (Chicken). Shallcross, a Juno award-winning engineer, is known for his handy work in the metal community through working with such acts as Gwar, Strapping Young Lad, Gene Hoglan, and Meldrum. He was approached by Bear for the project. After hearing the demos, Shallcross saw the limitless potential of these two hidden gems and effected an immediate collaboration. The first single, “What You Do”, featuring vocalist Kate Devlin, is soulful and intimate. The Random Humans EP, to be released on Random Human Records/Reversed Records, is a fresh step in Vancouver's teeming underground music scene. Always striving to display a real expression of a generation's musical influences, The Random Humans have only begun to scratch the surface...

CR: I wanna thank you for taking time out of your schedule to talk with me and to PulpMag. How Are You?

The Random Humans: Couldn’t be better!

CR:...iiight lets do this!!! Aside from music and what is written in your bio, tell us something about you that your fans don’t know.

The Random Humans: Most don’t know that we have only been a group for about a year and even more don’t know that we will be dropping our first full length album in Sept. 2010 entitled “Over your head”.

CR: As an artist, the musical journey is a long (trust me I know) and can not be done by oneself. Who are some of the people in your life who have supported you and continue to support you through you musical career.

The Random Humans: Everyone of our friends, family members and fans have supported us from day one and continue to support us as we grow musically but…. we definitely have to give the most credit to our parents. They’re always there when times are tough and it’s been nothing but love and words of wisdom from them since the get go, THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

CR: So...At what point in your life did you know you wanted to pursue a musical career and realize that you had what it takes to succeed in the messed up industry.

The Random Humans: BEAR: Music has always been a key part of my life but it wasn’t until I witnessed my first Hip-Hop show when I was 18 that I truly knew that this would be the genre I pursue in full force! That show was The Living Legends in Arizona.
DECEPTION: After I recorded my first song in 2002 on some random tape deck the message was clear. Stay real and stay focused! Been spreading that message to a growing audience ever since.

CR: What experience do you value more and in turn get more personal satisfaction from as an artist: The creative process of making a song from the thoughts, inspirations and and feelings to the writing, producing and/or recording of that song OR performing the the finished track at one of your live shows and feeling/seeing the crowds positive reaction and love for your musical genius.

The Random Humans: The entire process from start to finish is the experience we crave, not necessarily one or the other. From the inspiration of the first demo, to perfecting the flaws and hitting the studio, to holding all that hard work in your hand as a finished disk, to finally being able to share that song with our fans face to face and watching their positive reaction… that’s the experience!!!

CR: I’m gonna say a few words...tell me the first thing that comes to mind...lets start with your name The Random Humans...
